INTERVIEWS, SCENERIES, POINT OF VIEWS AND DOTS
As I have been working on my artistic master research I have also been on the look for a certain kind of a field, universe, sense of newly created webs and connections. I have used my studies as an excuse to reach out towards the things and people that I have not known before and also made deeper collegial connections with some already familiar makers, artists and friends. My research, “Authenticity as a know-how - a personal research into the nature of the performing self”, has been about the practices of the self, practices of the performer, looking into the pre-expressive practices and directions on stage and off, finding voice, voices and articulations both as a self and as a performer and witnessing these seemingly separate roles emerge from and disappear into each other: As a practice of the self I am embracing a fundamental project of becoming a performer.
This collection of three interviews introduces some of the most influential encounters in my process during the last 6 months. These women all share a certain fearless quality and a courage to follow a unique path of creation. All of the interviewees have a special relationship to their voice. The voices are ancient and mythical but also rough and unpronounceable. They form songs, sound clouds and lyrics and guide the listeners on journeys. These voices are deeply personal but they also carry with them connections to peers and politics, ancestors and gods, ancient landscapes and sceneries yet to be unfold. According to Foucault in order to “really care for the self, one must listen to the teachings of a master. One needs a guide, a counsellor a friend - someone who will tell you the truth”.
